ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Although breast-conserving surgery is one of the standard treatments for breast cancer, few studies have assessed its recent implementation in China. We aimed to clarify the current real-world status of breast-conserving surgery in China.@*METHODS@#This cross-sectional survey relied on data collected by the Chinese Society of Breast Surgery (CSBrS) to examine patients who underwent this surgery between January 2018 and December 2018. The survey was conducted using a uniform electronic questionnaire to collect information, including clinical and pathological data on these patients.@*RESULTS@#Overall, 4459 breast-conserving surgeries were performed in 34 member units of CSBrS, accounting for 14.6% of all breast cancer surgeries performed in these units during the study period. In patients who underwent breast-conserving surgery with information on tumor size available, more than half (61.2%) of the tumors were smaller than 2 cm in diameter, and only 87 (3.2%) tumors were larger than 4 cm in diameter. Among patients who underwent breast-conserving surgeries, 457 (10.2%) patients received neoadjuvant therapy before the surgery. Among patients with a reported margin width, 34 (2.0%) patients had a margin of ≤2 mm, and 1530 (88.2%) of them had a margin of >5 mm.@*CONCLUSIONS@#This study demonstrated the rates of breast-conserving surgery in member units of the CSBrS, and introduced the characteristics and surgical margins of patients who underwent this surgery. This information helps describe the real-world status of breast-conserving surgery in China.@*TRIAL REGISTRATION@#chictr.org.cn, ChiCTR1900026841; http://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.aspx?proj=42783.

ABSTRACT

Oncoplastic breast reconstruction has become an important component of comprehensive therapy for breast cancer.Strong collaborations of physicians, patients and society are warranted to build a normalized and professional mode and pathway for oncoplastic breast reconstruction in China. Both oncological safety and cosmetic well-being are key requirements for the design, procedure and assessment of oncoplastic breast reconstruction. The principles of comprehensive therapy and oncological considerations should not be compromised and should always take precedence.Breast surgeons should recommend and perform the oncoplastic breast reconstructions with objective understanding and cautious assessment, and strictly follow the recommendations of professional consensus as well as the principles of personalized treatment.Closely multidisciplinary collaborations with plastic surgeons are recommended to achieve a balanced oncoplastic safety and cosmetic "well-being.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDThere has been an increase in the incidence of breast cancer in China, but no definite risk and protective factors for breast cancer have been identified in Chinese females. This study was designed to identify the risk factors for female breast cancer in North and East China.

METHODSA 1:3 matched, case-control study was conducted. All of the subjects in the case and control groups were selected from a previous epidemiological survey of 122 058 females aged 25 to 70 years. Single and multiple Logistic regression analyses were used to study potential factors in the development of breast cancer.

RESULTSSignificant differences at the level of α=0.20 between case and control groups were observed for the following factors: economic status, social status, family annual income, bean product consumption, body mass index (BMI), family history of breast cancer in the first or second degree, number of miscarriages, menstrual pattern, benign breast disease history, nipple leakage, inverted nipple, history of diabetes mellitus, history of hypertension, history of ovarian cyst, physical exercise, current and global quality of life satisfaction, healthy behavior and prevention, and scores of breast cancer-related knowledge. After Cox-regression model analysis (α=0.10), six factors were found to be significantly related to breast cancer, of which the ORs and 95%CIs were: BMI, 1.696 (1.169-2.460, P=0.005); benign breast disease history, 2.672 (0.848-8.416, P=0.093); family history of breast cancer, 7.080 (1.758-28.551, P=0.006); number of miscarriages, 1.738 (1.014-2.978, P=0.044); global quality of life satisfaction, 3.044 (1.804-5.136, P=0.000); healthy behavior and prevention, 3.294 (1.692-6.412, P=0.000).

CONCLUSIONSA comprehensive range of factors related to breast cancer was identified. Women should be educated about a healthy lifestyle, especially those with a family history of breast cancer or a personal history of benign breast disease.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo provide basic information for epidemiological research of gastrointestinal (GI) malignant tumors.

METHODSData of GI cancer diagnosed in 15 hospitals of Heilongjiang province between January 1998 and December 2007 were analyzed retrospectively. The data mainly involved the age of onset, initial symptoms, pathological types, clinical staging and types of surgical procedure.

RESULTSGastric cancer was the most common type (45.8%) among the 33,540 GI cancer cases, then were rectal cancer (27.3%) and colon cancer (26.8%). Right colon cancer cases were more common than the left ones (1.3:1.0), particularly in people over 80 (2.1:1.0). Only 1.3% of colorectal cancer could be found in age under 30 years old. In patients aged 50 to 70, advanced gastric cancer accounted for 70.6%, advanced colon cancer 73.4% and advanced rectal cancer 72.4%. Well-moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in early gastric cancer was 49.7%, early colon cancer 77.3% and rectal cancer 83.2%. Patients undergone radical excision in early gastric cancer accounted for 69.1%, advanced gastric cancer 79.9%, left colon cancer 91.9%, right colon cancer 83.9% and in rectal cancer for 88.3%.

CONCLUSIONSPeople aged 50 to 70 tend to get GI cancer in Heilongjiang province. Gastric cancer is the most common GI cancer. Radical excision is the main choice of therapy.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the dynamic change of serum leptin interleukin-6(IL-6),and interleukin-8(IL-8)during cerebral infarction, and to analyze the possible relationship between these factors and the severity of the disease.Method The levels of serum leptin,IL-6 and IL-8 were measured by radioimmunoassay in 60 patients with acute cerebral infarction, who were admitted to the hospital within 24 hours after stroke.Patients' neurologic impairment were evaluated by European Stroke Scale(ESS)at 1,3 and 7 days respectively after hospitalization. At the same time, another 30 normal adults were enrolled set as control group. Results The levels of serum Leptin,IL-8 in patients group after at 1 days,3 and 7 days were higher than those in the controls(P0.05).The ESS of these patients were 76.77?26.42,70.02?29.17,74.65?28.42 respectively, after 1,3 and 7 days.It shown that ESS simply correlated to the level of IL-8(P0.05).Statistic analysis was carried, but by using t test and linear correlation.(SPSS11.5 statistical package). Conclusion Leptin,IL-6 and IL-8 probably play a role in the inflammatory, reaction during acute cerebral infarction. The IL-8 may reflect the severity of the disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the correlation between regional blood perfusion and biological features of breast cancer. Methods Spiral CT technique was applied to quantitatively detect the central and marginal blood perfusion, including blood flow ( BF ) , blood volume ( BV) and permeability of surface (PS). Results The central and marginal blood perfusion of breast cancer were significantly higher than that of normal breast tissues. The marginal blood perfusion was higher than central blood perfusion. The regional blood perfusion of breast cancer varied with tumor size, clinical stage and histological grading. Conclusion The regional blood perfusion correlates with biological markers in breast cancer and can be used to evaluate the biological characteristics as a noninvasive marker before neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
